Qualcomm took the wraps off the new Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 SoC
There are mainly two companies to which processors used in our Android smartphones are sourced: MediaTek and Qualcomm. If Qualcomm was holding a sway in the market, with its continuing offerings, MediaTek has introduced processors at different price ranges, all of which have been fast adopted by phone makers. Facing the challenge from MediaTek, Qualcomm announced another chipset, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2. This chipset is mostly made for entry-level 5G devices and acts as a more budget-friendly variant of the last year’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2.
Coming back to the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, according to reports, it will start shipping later this year. It’s reportedly going to be used in $100 devices, roughly 8,375 INR. Reports have it that Xiaomi could be one of the first brands to use this processor on Indian shores. So we can finally expect even more budget 5G smartphones.
Snapdragon 4s Gen 2: Based on Samsung’s 4nm Technology, Promises 1Gbps 5G Speeds
The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 comes under the codename SM4635 and is based on Samsung’s 4nm 4LPX process technology. It slots the Snapdragon 5G ModemRF system, which supposedly can enable a phone to hit 1 Gbps 5G speeds and offer very fast download speeds.
Moreover, it can handle Full HD+ and HD+ displays at a refresh rate of 90Hz. Meanwhile, this processor is also provided with Wi-Fi 5, WPA3, and GPS. This further introduces Quick Charge 4+ technology; hence, phones that have this chipset will support fast charging.
The camera will add up to a dual 16 MP + 16 MP setup inside the phone with the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2. It can click up to 108 MP photos, but it shall be based on pixel-binning technology.
